Another member of the blogosphere

This is my blog. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

I didn't even really like that movie, but I've been looking for a place to use that line for a long time and this seemed like a good place. :-) This will not be the most interesting post, no doubt, but a first post rarely is.

Greetings blogging world from your latest member, a freelance web developer and technophile. More information on me will likely be forthcoming eventually, but we'll get there later. For now, this blog serves two main purposes.

  1. I've been asked by a client to set up a blog, so I'm first setting one up for myself to get some practice with it. After some research (for which I found Owen Winkler's blog comparison table extremely useful) I settled on the well-reviewed WordPress. It's PHP-based (my native language on the web), highly customizable, and Free as in speech and donuts.
  2. I've been considering setting up a blog or something similar on this site for some time as a place to hold various commentary on the technology world as well as tutorials and "from the trenches" documentation that I've found sadly lacking in other places. Hopefully the latter will prove to be the bulk of the content on this site, making it useful as a resource for developers and users as well as to those strange people who just like to hear me talk.

For now the site is still in a high state of flux. Expect a lot of changes as I get a better feel for the software, locate a good suite of plugins, and develop a good theme to replace the default. (Use a pre-build one? What fun is that?) Perhaps I'll blog about the changes as they happen. ;-)
